THE VIRILITY: OTHER CULTURES’ CURES
The Chinese began using ginseng as a sex booster five thousand years ago. Ginseng, which means “man root,” most likely earned its early reputation for enhancing male sexuality from its distinctly human-looking shape. Ancient Chinese writings tell us that ginseng has long been used to prevent and cure a broad range of ailments, including ED. In India, ancient Vedic texts relate that the root will impart the power of a bull to men young and old. In fact, ginseng does seem to have a sexual-stimulating ability. Today, a substantial body of medical literature, published primarily in China, Japan, Korea, and Russia, supports traditional beliefs about the sexual effectiveness of this root.
There are three major varieties of ginseng: American, Panax, and Siberian, each with a specific use. It’s the Panax variety, also known as Asian ginseng that has played a major role in producing erections naturally without complications. This type of ginseng comes in two forms: white and red. The colors relate to the particular method employed to preserve the root. Red ginseng, considered the more powerful of t he two, is usually given to people who are lacking energy. In 1995, a study of ninety patients was carried out at the Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, and a report on the study in the International Journal of Impotency Research stated that those men talking red ginseng had significantly strengthened penile rigidity and GIRTH, as well as heightened libido and increased pleasure. Their degree of satisfaction outweighed that of patients who received either a placebo or a low dose of trazodone, an antidepressant with positive prosexual capabilities. Investigation of this fascinating root is ongoing.
